On life and work between Dublin & Berlin

Ballmer is close to becoming the new Withnail

As he’s so quoteable

I’ll bet our ads will be less edgy. But my 85-year-old uncle probably will never own an iPod, and I hope we’ll get him to own a Zune

He was right about the ads. Not sure about the usability of a Zune over an iPod though, no matter what age.

Decisions decisions

A friend recently recommended The West Wing and considering american current affairs, it’s turning out to be very compelling telly indeed. So I decided to order the box set. But jeez, where to order from?

My Third Deck

When I saw this deck, I had that giddy feeling like I haven’t had for ages. Full slick deck, the kind that Santa Cruz originally pioneered, amazing graphics, I think I still have it ground down to a pulp somewhere in Dublin. via http://www.disposablethebook.com/

Apple create objects of great beauty

Beauty is a form of genius, is higher, indeed, than genius, as it needs no explanation. It is one of the great facts in the world like sunlight, or springtime, or the reflection in dark water of that silver shell we call the moon.

Oscar Wilde

I think that this is an eerily fitting quote from Wilde. The words, “genius”, “reflection” and most strikingly “silver shell” definitely echo some of themes of the design of the new MacBook series. Not to mention the phrase “needs no explanation”.

It is with this understanding and consideration that Apple creates beautiful, functional solutions … that work. Wilde would definitely have used a mac.

Starting again … again

Just like cleaning out that old cupboard, or finally filing those receipts which have been lying in the inbox for weeks, I’m starting again. Out with the old, in with the new. It’s time to discard all of that digital detritus which has been building up in my nasty old Mephisto blog and to start again with a Tabula Rasa. This is refreshing, an empty page and lots of time and space to fill it with.

The fact that my old blog got very little to no love (my own fault I suppose) thankfully makes it much easier to move on. Like ripping off a small band aid. Something you know will not hurt for very long. Swoosh! And there go all my previous entries. Destined to be naught but linkrot in the indexes of the past. Sorry Google. But sometimes a guy’s just gotta move on. Hence the domain change. It’s time to put my money where my mouth is, and my mouth where my blog is, which is finally at matthewling.com and not nerdlaizer.com. Goodbye nerdalizer, I’ll see you again soon!
